The Star of the Sea Elder’s Village on the Thursday Island waterfront
Earlier this month I was up on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait, where I was doing the architectural and aerial photography of the redeveloped Star of the Sea Elder’s Village. Coburn Architecture, dwp and Hansen Yuncken had all been involved in the work to refurbish the existing nursing home buildings to create a 40 bed Residential Aged Care Facility, as well as new staff accommodation units. A new ocean front dining room and viewing platform connects residents to the sea – an important part of Torres Strait island culture. Other main features include new administration facilities and an auditorium complex.
