With those images of majestic boab trees standing sentinel over dramatic landscapes of sandstone escarpments, towering waterfalls and lush gorges, the Kimberley region of Western Australia has always stirred my imagination. In early October I had the chance to visit this ancient region, overland from Darwin to Broome, shooting some travel photography for a tour company. For most of the 9 day trip, the days followed a familiar pattern of: rise early, hike and swim a gorge, lunch, hike and swim a gorge, dinner, early night. While the late spring heat was pretty oppressive, the amazing scenery of the Bungle Bungles and the legendary Gibb River Road, made it a trip to remember.
